Our History
We are Janton & Annemarie van Dijk, proud owners of Dierenwereld in Toolenburg, Hoofddorp. What began as a small hobby at home has grown over the years into a life's work centered around our love of animals—and birds in particular.
A few years ago, we decided to turn our passion into our profession. We started by keeping and breeding smaller bird species, but soon our aviaries were filled with larger, more unusual birds. Each nest, each new life, brought us more knowledge, experience, and, above all, admiration for the versatility of these magnificent creatures.
After eight years of hard work, learning, and building our business, we were suddenly faced with a major setback. Yet, we embraced that period as a fresh start. With renewed energy and determination, we pursued our dream – and in October 2025, we were finally able to open the doors of our new pet shop in Toolenburg, Hoofddorp.
Our store is much more than just a place to buy pet products. It's a meeting place for animal lovers – a place where knowledge, passion, and care converge. We continue to specialize in birds, but we've been able to share our love for animals more broadly with a complete range for dogs, cats, rodents, fish, and other pets.
What drives us remains the same as on day one: the well-being of animals and the happiness of their owners. We take the time to provide personalized advice, listen to your story, and help you decide what's best for your pet. Because for us, animals aren't just pets—they're part of the family.
